| The Swing Mechanic and Position Hitting | |||||
Jaime Cevallos, the founder of The Swing Mechanic and one of the most improved hitters in Division 1 history, volunteered his time after college to film hitters at the professional and college level, and noticed a void in the quality of baseball instruction. The average college or professional hitting coach is a former star athlete looking to move up the coaching ranks. He often times will market himself as a hitting guru and make money from DVD sales and camp appearances, yet he has virtually no true credentials in the art of teaching the swing effectively. Theswingmechanic.com, the #1 baseball swing analysis and instruction website, teaches players the truth about hitting mechanics. The Swing Mechanic’s approach, coined Position Hitting, teaches players to improve quickly and easily by changing key positions of their swing. The Swing Mechanic’s Tool MP30 training aid is quickly becoming popular at the college and pro levels. Used in practice and on deck, The Tool MP30 easily allows a player to feel more powerful and consistent positions throughout the swing. |

How Does Position Hitting teach a perfect swing? We don’t teach what has been done by players in the past. We teach you how to understand each positions' purpose and how to enhance its contribution to power and consistency in the swing. Minor changes in mechanics can go a long way. Swing Mechanic Instructors are always measuring your swing against a hypothetical perfect swing for which hitters should continuously strive. |

How is it different than other methods that are taught? Position Hitting is not one dimensional like rotational and linear hitting theories. Through years of research, we have found the key positions of the baseball swing and the quickest methods to attaining them. Other training methods have kids mindlessly hitting balls in a cage. Position Hitting enables the player to finally begin to get the most of his abilities, by learning better swing positions. This method of training produces results quickly. |

| Here is a little more about the origins of Position Hitting. | |||||
1. SELF EXPERIMENTATION: Jaime Cevallos, the creator of Position Hitting, became one of the most improved hitters in D-1 history when he increased his average by .168 points and his slugging percentage by .312 points in just one year. “Our system of teaching young hitters is flawed,” says Cevallos. “Ex –major league players have no correlation to good hitting instructors than do movie stars on the inner workings of a camera.” In an interview with The Tennessean Suzanne Blackwood writes, “when Jaime Cevallos watches baseball, the swing is all he sees.” In the years since he played in college (1997), Cevallos has devoted much of his life to studying players’ swings, looking for any position within the swing that correlated to hitting greatness. And once a position was found with this correlation, he worked on ways to condition the body to achieve these positions when it counts in competition. 2. STUDY VIDEO TO DISCOVER "KEY" MOVES VERSES "B" MOVES: There are three types of traits within each position a hitter achieves. There are key moves, “b” moves and style moves. Key moves have a positive correlation to success, “b” moves a negative correlation, and style moves have no correlation. In years of analysis and experimenting, TSM researchers and instructors recorded the swings of both average and great players, and began to discover patterns. Good hitters got into certain positions that increased their chances drastically of having success at bat. Position Hitting teaches positions that result in increased chances of success. As of January 15, 2008, Position Hitting is The Swing Mechanic’s endorsed method of instruction. 3. DISCOVER PERFECT POSITIONS FOR EACH OF THE NINE STAGES OF THE SWING: Position Hitting is recognized for creating a hypothetical perfect swing to which all hitters can measure themselves. While nobody is perfect, we can still strive for perfection. Combining both video analysis and equations of physics, Position Hitting has discovered the purpose of each stage of the swing, and created a perfect look for each position. “If we look back at players in the past and ingrain their moves, we can only be as good as they were,” says Cevallos, “I want to be better. Therefore we have improved upon their positions by teaching a hypothetical perfect swing. For example, Babe Ruth got into great positions throughout his swing, but they still could have been better. It is our mission to bring hitting to another level in Baseball. We believe that Position Hitting will directly lead to the next .400 hitter and the first 80 home run man.” |
